Exciting news in the music world as newly formed Afro-dance group ChopLife SoundSystem has just released their latest track ‘Wena’ featuring the amazing vocals of South African singer Ami Faku. Comprising of Afrobeats star Mr Eazi and UK-based Kenyan DJ Edu, the group’s futuristic Afro-dance sound, produced by DJ Tárico and released via Choplife Limited, is definitely worth listening to.

‘Wena’ tells a heart-breaking story of two would-be lovers who were never able to make their connection work. The song uses Faku’s Xhosa vocals and Mr Eazi’s English to deliver the tragic message. But it’s not all sadness, as the song also encourages dancing away the heartbreak on the dance floor.

‘Wena’ is just the beginning for ChopLife SoundSystem, as it is the lead single off their upcoming mixtape Chop Life Vol. 1: Mzansi Chronicles, which is set to release on May 28th. The mixtape promises a unique and exciting project that sees the group team up with a host of producers, DJs, and vocalists.

ChopLife SoundSystem takes its name from the West African Pidgin slang phrase chop life, meaning ‘enjoy life,’ and sound system, a Jamaican term for a crew of mobile DJs and MCs. The group brings a modern African twist to sound-system culture, fusing genres like amapiano and Afrobeats to curate the ultimate African party experience for both studio recordings and live events.

Mr Eazi is the primary vocalist on ChopLife SoundSystem, serving as the group’s MC at live events alongside resident selector DJ Edu and guest artists and DJs. “I’m going back to where I started from, hosting the biggest parties at uni,” Mr Eazi said. “That’s how I started singing. I am looking forward to this new and fun ride, and I can’t wait for all the music to start dropping and the accompanying live experience.”
