It’s been a while since we’ve heard new Dice Ailes music, but that’s no longer the case. ‘Ladies First,’ a song from the Nigerian musician, was published by Sony Music Entertainment. The six-track EP is his first collection of work, and it is ostensibly motivated by his passion for ladies. It’s an admirable return for a musician who maintains a treasured status in the hearts of Afropop fans, slick with vibrant production and racy entries into Dice’s legendary discography.
Tiwa Savage (“Hold Me”) and Kaydy Cain (“Rosalia”) are featured on the album. Dice Ailes, on the other hand, applies his exceptional songwriting skills to the overarching theme of romance and its related issues. He shows off his variety on “Zombie,” a sensuous ballad about the fragility that comes with being in love that interpolates the Fela Kuti classic of the same name.
Dice Ailes has remained a point of reference for new school Afropop acts since striking out with “Telephone” roughly eight years ago. Over the years, he’s amassed an incredible hit list, ranging from “Miracle” to “Otedola” and, most recently, the Olamide-assisted “Pim Pim.”
Dice Ailes’ ‘Ladies First’ EP will undoubtedly be in circulation for a long time, thanks to its thoughtful packaging and truly excellent music.
